But what if:
- It’s not yet doing everything you need it to
- You don’t quite understand the information Xero is producing
- Some data is being entered incorrectly, or not at all (Garbage in – Garbage out)
- You feel like the guy who told us “I stopped doing my books when I realised I was making them worse!”
- Your accountants sold you the dream, they set it up but they didn’t really understand it
A little bit of Xero training will make your accounting everything you want and need it to be!

Xero should fit your business like a glove and we can help tailor it.
Get ahead with Xero – made to measure!
Data entry – the building blocks of accounting
We run half-day training sessions, one to one, where we work with you to process your transactions in Xero. Then we look at your accounting processes and workflows to see if they can be more efficient.
If there are data-entry apps that can make your accounting more efficient and accurate, we can explore those with you as well.
Example of topics we often cover in the Xero raining sessions are:
- Work with your chart of accounts
- Set up and maintain your Customer and Supplier accounts
- Create invoices and statements – credit control
- Manage money received
- Accounting for and paying of bills
- Accounting for other bank payments and receipts and petty cash
- View information on basic accounts reports
- Learn how to keep track of your company’s VAT
- Prepare a VAT return using Xero
Reports and information
We also set up the key reports you should be using in Xero (e.g. P&L, balance sheet, debtors and creditors) and review them with you, so you understand the insight they are offering.
Reviewing the reports also reveals whether your data entry is correct and complete – sunlight is the best disinfectant!

Xero and Making Tax Digital
Making Tax Digital is coming at you if you’re a private landlord or run a self-employed business.
If that’s you then the starting point is to set up a separate bank account and start to use accounting software for each of these activities.
Xero can be the accounting software part of that work.
Straight away, you link your new bank account to Xero and get going with the bookkeeping. Which is where we can help you with Xero training.
You get the immediate advantage that you know the financial performance of your business or your property – the information is at your fingertips.
Once you’re up and running with Xero, you keep up and running and your submissions to HMRC should be pretty straight forward.
How does our Xero training work?
The starting point is a half-day training session which costs £300 plus VAT. This can be at your business or our office.
If further training sessions are required then we can agree them as we go.
We also work with you if you need some ad hoc support – we’re happy to run short sessions on Teams / Zoom to help you get the best from Xero.
Our office is next to Putney Bridge tube station. Ideal if so if you’re close by – Fulham, Hammersmith, Chelsea, Putney, Richmond – or further afield in Central or South West London.

Blue Dot Consulting – accounting services
Most businesses we work with on Xero training already have an accountant, which is fine. We don’t want to get in the way of a relationship that’s working.
However, we often see that a large part of the reason the business owner needs some help is that their overall accounting is in a bit of a mess or they simply don’t understand what’s going on.
You’re here for the Xero training and let’s get that done. And if, afterwards, you feel a change of accountant might be a good thing then let’s talk.
“As an experienced Sage user of over 30 years I was anxious about using the cloud based Xero and its many automated functions. Michael’s straightforward, practical and tailor made approach was perfect for me and our business. With clear explanation and reasoning he was ready to answer any of my questions with calm reassurance at all times. Thank you Michael.“
